Pro-XRP Advocate John Deaton Mulling Senate Challenges High-profile Crypto Critic Elizabeth Warren: Report

XRP supporter and attorney John Deaton is reportedly considering challenging Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren in the upcoming 2024 US Senate elections.

The Boston Globe reports that Jim Conroy, campaign manager and political adviser to former Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, is consulting with Deaton about the possibility of him joining the senatorial race as a Republican candidate.

Conroy says the lawyer is “looking seriously” at running and will make a decision in the coming days.

The report says that Deaton, who served as amicus counsel for XRP holders in the case brought by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against blockchain payments company Ripple, will become Warren’s first major challenger if he decides to proceed with the senatorial bid.

Warren, who is seeking a third term, is a staunch crypto critic who introduced the Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act last year. The bill proposes to extend the application of the Bank Secrecy Act requirements, including the know-your-customer (KYC) rules, to the digital assets industry.

Deaton has not yet made an announcement. Instead, he’s sharing his Massachusetts connections in a new one after on social media platform

“[I]In addition to living in Swansea Massachusetts, I have been a Massachusetts attorney for 23 years representing asbestos victims in Massachusetts against corporations and insurance companies.

I represent 627 XRP holders in Massachusetts against the SEC’s gross overreach as amicus counsel in the SEC vs Ripple case – as well as Massachusetts Coinbase customers in SEC vs Coinbase. My business loan is with a Massachusetts Bank. And the list goes on regarding my connection to Massachusetts.
