Malaysian authorities are considering using emerging technologies to check international Halal certification organizations to confirm food processing standards.

The government recently indicated a clear intention to experiment with blockchain technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure compliance with halal requirements. Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, Minister of the Department of Religious Affairs of the Prime Minister, confirmed the start of a pilot project to test Halal certification control with emerging technologies.

The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), the National Agency for Halal certification, has set standards for international agencies to follow in the issue of halal certificates.

Mokhtar revealed that, despite the issues, Jakim cannot verify the authenticity of the Halal certificate issued by abroad. To guarantee transparency, the Halal -Waakhond van Malaysia says it will change to emerging technologies in a phased approach.

Participants must include every phase of the supply chain on distributed ledgers, offering real -time monitoring for processed food.

“Blockchain technology ensures that every phase of the Halal Supply Chain is registered and verified in a transparent and unchanging way, which improves the efficiency and integrity of the monitoring,” said Mokhtar.

In the meantime, the minister looks with AI at the automated revision of halal certificates and identifies potential cases of non-compliance in record time.

“AI makes automatic analysis of compliance data possible, identifying inconsistencies of certification and granting early warnings for non-compliance,” the minister said.

Moreover, Jakim is planning to use generative AI for Islamic teachings, but noted that the large language model (LLM) will only use ‘Shariah-compliant data’.

In recent months, Malaysia has experienced a considerable gear in involvement in emerging technologies. The Southeast Asian country has also tapped Blockchain and AI to combat corruption in the midst of increased acceptance in the private sector.

At the beginning of 2024, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) waded into the country with an investment of $ 2.2 billion in AI and cloud infrastructure. Part of the amount is intended for deepening the talent pool and setting up new AI research centers for the country.

“We are committed to supporting the AI transformation of Malaysia and ensure that it benefits all Malaysians,” said Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. “Our investments in digital infrastructure and skills will help Malaysian companies, communities and developers to apply the latest technology to stimulate inclusive economic growth and innovation throughout the country.”

China deepens Ai Talent Pool

Elsewhere, Chinese Tsinghua University has announced plans to extend the admission to the institution with a view to deepening the talent pool for emerging technologies.

The university will expand admission by another 150 students, aimed at AI-based curriculum. This last development follows the establishment of a new College of General Studies for students, with AI reflected in all its courses.

The new faculty will integrate AI into its learning curriculum, with a sharp focus on interdisciplinary possibilities for new students. The leadership of the university indicates that the initiative aims to strengthen its position as the most important institution for AI in China.

In addition to setting up a faculty and expanding recordings, the university has its workforce with extra AI training to keep pace with digitization. A large part of the university’s budget is reserved for staff training, while it is expected that a part will be used for AI-based research and development (R&D).

The initiative follows a series of AI-based offers by the leading university in Northwest-Beijing. Currently, almost 147 classes at the University of AI-based educational systems have installed in 117 courses.

While the learning session starts, a university spokesperson is considering the extensive integration of intelligent teaching assistants for lesson planning and assessment functions. It also investigates experimenting with an AI-based plagiarism control in the midst of rising generative AI use by students.

On the other hand, the Tsinghua University offers students AI assistants with advanced personalization benefits for learning themselves, while plans are classified for a login program that is public to the public based on the basic principles of AI and the rollout of general education courses for AI.

The final goal of the university is to offer a talent pipeline for the emerging AI ecosystem of China, which is filled with service providers who would like to challenge Western dominance. Given the focus of the country on stimulating development efforts, Chinese universities are expected to play a crucial role in improving the talent pool in this sector.

Apart from AI, Chinese universities increase their investments in blockchain technology, whereby institutions set up web3 and metaverse departments.

The country is also based on the integration of emerging technologies to improve public services in payments, health and transport. Due to the recent Push, the minimum global standards for AI in the United Nations has pursued and at the same time tightening controls for service providers in the region.

The rollout of Deepseek to compete with Western generative AI offers is considered a great victory by the Asian super power because it catches up with other regional first movers.

In order for artificial intelligence (AI) to work immediately within the law and to thrive in the light of growing challenges, it must integrate an Enterprise blockchain system that ensures data invoicing quality and ownership – so that it can keep data safe and at the same time guarantees the consent of data.
