Lawyers for Alex Mashinsky, the Canceled co-founder of Crypto Lending Platform Celsius, makes the recommendation of the Ministry of Justice (DOJ) to keep their client behind bars for the rest of his life, instead asking for a smooth one-year punishment.
In a new court application, Mashinsky’s lawyers say that the government paints an unfair image, making it look like it is a monster instead of a first non -violent perpetrator.
“The court must impose a prison sentence of no more than 366 days. The entry of the GIF from the government rearranges this case as one who entails a predator with the intention of ‘targeting’ victims, ‘damage’, and ‘stealing’ their money. It concludes that a first, non-violent offense receives. ‘
The lawyers also note that the Doj completely ignores Mashinsky’s past, including starting many successful companies and serving for the Israeli army.
“There is no recognition of the injuries and losses that he has suffered as a member of the Israeli defense groups. There is not even a transient wink to the companies that he has founded for more than thirty years in heavily regulated environments that have brought him success well before Celsius, a spot clamp on his file.
The government would make the court believe that Alex was born at the age of 59, a devil. Ignoring his background is not surprising; It makes all the more absurd the idea that a man who employed himself throughout his life suddenly underwent a jekyll-to-hyde transformation. “
Mashinsky was arrested in July 2023 after being accused of violating the securities legislation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In December 2024 he pleaded guilty of committing a multi-billion dollar crypto fraud and other market manipulation schemes.
At the time, the Doj said that Mashinsky Celsius wrongly represented as a safe platform and the potential exaggerated for profitability, so that the user file was considerably blown up.
