Nouns DAO has financed its first full-length animated film, The Rise of Blus: A Noun Movie, featuring popular NFT characters from the Nouns community. This is the first-ever animated film to be funded by a DAO. The movie was produced by Courtyardan animation studio and a network of independent artists and creators who have previously worked with Pixar, Netflix and Marvel.

Today, June 21, fans got a first look at how the project’s open-source IP is making its way to the big screen with the release of the film’s pilot segment.

The making of The rise of Blus

The plot of The Rise of Blus: A Noun Movie revolves around the vibrant floating cloud city of Blus, in which a daring 13-year-old Noun discovers an evil plot by the city’s aristocrats. The young hero must team up with a motley crew of unlikely allies (other nouns) to thwart the threat and protect those they hold dear.

“The main character is a completely original noun, so it’s not based on one noun,” Atrium co-founder Supriyo Roy now told nft. “But the other characters will be inspired by existing nouns.”

This animation project goes against the trend of traditional studio production and is supervised by directors Zen doubt And HKJay and written by Yuwil. The $2.75 million budget for the film will be paid out in stages depending on the team’s progress and continued community funding.

Despite operating on a smaller budget compared to conventional animated films, Atrium says it is determined to complete production quickly without compromising on quality.

Zen Doubt expressed his enthusiasm for the progress made so far, attributing the fast pace to flexible decision-making that bypasses the usual bureaucracy of traditional studios.

“What we have been able to achieve so far is wild! We are 10x faster than traditional studios because we can make decisions quickly and move forward in a more flexible way,” he shared in a press release.

This production relies on an entire remote team stretching from Los Angeles to Hong Kong, leveraging the real-time rendering capabilities of Unreal Engine 5. This approach facilitates a faster decision-making process, allowing the directors to quickly explore different styles.

The trial segment of The Rise of Blus – A movie with nouns is available to view on nouns.film and on the nouns DAO Discord.
