Nokia Powers Surge’s Subsea network, increasing affordable broadband for millions in Indonesia

  • The new Subsea network of Surge will improve the interconnectivity of the regional data center and at the same time expand access to affordable broadband access to more than 40 million people in Indonesia.
  • With the help of Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform, Surge can now produce a rapid optical transmission between Indonesia and Singapore.

Jakarta, Indonesia and Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced that PT Solusi Sinergi Digital TBK (Surge), a leading digital infrastructure provider in Indonesia, has used the optical solution of Nokia to connect Jakarta and Singapore. This new Subsea network will stimulate the interconnectivity of the regional data center and support the mission of Surge to extend affordable broadband access to disadvantaged communities in Indonesia.

The new undersea connections with high capacity is part of Surge’s wider expansion of infrastructure to extend fiber -based broadband to 40 million households. It will make the affordable internet initiatives of Surge possible, so that reliable connectivity is brought with the communities that need it the most.

Powered by Nokia’s 1830 PSS, the network will provide an initial capacity of 20.8 terabits, allowing an increase in the ultra-high speed services of up to 800GE for Tier-1 and Tier-2 Enterprise customers. Nokia’s undersea solution also enables a peak to deliver scalable, space and power-efficient transmission, to support the growth plans of Surge while maintaining operational efficiency.

“This strategic implementation underlines our dedication to digital equity and the construction of a lake connected, inclusive future.
