Autoglyphs set acquired for $14.6 million in largest NFT sale since 2022

A complete set of 10 Autoglyphs was purchased for 5,000 ETH, approximately $14.6 million today, marking the highest NFT sale in the past two years and the fifth largest purchase on the chain.

The sale took place through Fountain.xyz, a rare digital art brokerage. The collector wished to remain anonymous, but a representative said the buyer has a background of collecting traditional analog art forms and sees the Autoglyphs as no different than a standard art purchase.

Moments ago, a complete set of ten Autoglyphs, originally minted by Larva Labs itself, was sold to a Distinguished Private Collector for 5,000 ETH, making it one of the highest NFT sales ever recorded on the chain…

Autoglyphs were introduced in 2019 by Larva Labs, the creators behind the iconic CryptoPunks, and represent the pinnacle of on-chain generative art. Unlike many NFTs that rely on off-chain storage, every aspect of an Autoglyph, from the creation algorithm to the final visual output, exists directly on the Ethereum blockchain. This solves the off-chain storage issues encountered with previous projects like CryptoPunks.

Every piece in this 512 collection is immutable and royalty-free. Autoglyphs are considered the purest form of generative art within the blockchain space. The set was one of only seven complete sets and one of three developer sets assembled and minted directly by Matt Hall and John Watkinson of Larva Labs. The acquired set was previously also part of the ‘Old School Collection’.

The purchase adds another milestone to Autoglyphs’ legacy, which has generated more than $50 million in secondary sales and exhibitions at prestigious venues such as Center Pompidou and Sotheby’s.
