Global interest in blockchain has fallen by 58% in three years, with the industry’s focus increasingly shifting to AI advancements. According to Google Trends data, interest in blockchain has dropped to 30, down from 71 on November 3, 2021, while interest in AI has increased by more than 560% over the same period.

Nigeria leads in blockchain search levels

According to GoogleTrendsThe term ‘blockchain’ was the most searched for from February 14 to February 20, 2021, with a score of 100 over the past 5 years. However, interest rates have fallen sharply since then. On November 3, 2021, interest in blockchain dropped to 71, and currently web search levels have dropped to just 30, representing a 58% drop in just three years.

As of November 3, Nigeria had the highest regional interest in blockchain technology at 100. This is followed by St. Helena and Ghana, with 60 and 45 browser search levels respectively. Cameroon and China make up the remaining top five countries with high blockchain interest levels, with scores of 40 and 35 respectively.

While searches for blockchain technology may be related to BTC price correlations, the ongoing trends show otherwise. This year, the highest search levels on the blockchain web were at 58, reached between March 3 and March 9, 2024, when the BTC price was $73,000.

However, Google Trends shows that internet searches for Bitcoin are on a decline, despite the bullish price increase in recent weeks. On August 3, 2024, Bitcoin interest levels were only 62, and this figure is coming soon plummeted drastically to 34 on November 3, culminating in a 45% drop in just three months.
