Former leader for CFTC chair role resigns to Leiden Blockchain Association

Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Commissioner Summer Mersinger will leave the agency on 30 May to become the new CEO of Blockchain Association, according to a May 14, according to a May 14 Announcement.

The announcement states that the appointment of Mersinger comes at a criticism of the legislative moment for digital assets in Washington, where the blockchain association is insisting on congress actions on the market structure and stablecoin legislation.

The group described the selection process as exhaustive and noted that the regulatory experience and Capitol Hill -background motivated Mersinger’s choice.

Crypto -Interest

In particular, Mersinger was recently driven as one of the best contenders to become chairman of the CFTC in a potential Trump administration.

A January report With reference to sources that are familiar with internal transition discussions, alongside Brian Qutenz and Marco Santori mentioned her as front runners. Her reputation for articulating a balanced policy for digital assets made her a favorite candidate with participants in industry.

During her term of office at the CFTC, Mersinger received recognition for the advocation of policy frameworks that meet digital assets innovation while retaining consumer protection. In particular, it was not even due to the enforcement action of the CFTC against Uniswap in September 2024, argued for congress clarity instead of enforcement regulations.

Her earlier experience includes various roles in the office of Senator John Thune, who gives her a deep fame with the legislative process.

Mersinger succeeds Kristin Smith, who served as the founder of the group and is credited to transform the association of a boutique operation into the leading trade voice of the sector.

The industry welcomes the appointment of Mersinger

Senator Pat Tomey Congratulations Mersinger on social media, who says that she brings a great background to a very important moment for crypto ‘, while she also praised Smith’s work that established the influence of the association.

Crypto Council for Innovation President Ji Kim said He looks forward to continuous cooperation and calls it “important work that lies for us.”

Blockchain Association Board -member Jake Chervinsky, who also serves as Chief Legal Officer at Variant Fund, written:

“Comm’r Mersinger has been a great champion for crypto during her time at the CFTC, and now the entire industry will benefit from its leadership.”

Bill Hughes, counsel at Consensys, described Mersinger’s “enthusiasm for the challenge for the challenge” and trust in its ability to navigate through the current policy environment through the industry.

The introduction of Mersinger in the membership of the association will follow its departure of the CFTC.
