South African cricketing legend Abraham Benjamin de Villiers, aka AB de Villiers, revealed how he fell victim to an NFT hack. At the time of the hack, AB owned a whopping 300 NFTs.

In an interview with Cointelegraph, de Villiers revealed that he owned more than 300 digital collectibles before falling victim to a hack last year.

AB de Villeres signed a malicious contract

AB, who has vocally embraced NFTs and crypto, was fooled by a malicious NFT posing as a new Pudgy Penguin drop, the legendary cricketer accidentally gave a hacker access to his wallet by signing a malicious contract. AB revealed that it tapped the link because it looked very legit. There was a $1 gas allowance. The moment he reached that gas allowance, it stopped. AB said he hit it about five times, giving the hacker full access to his entire wallet.

AB de Villiers ended up losing much of his collection before sending the rest of his NFTs to another wallet for safekeeping. The South African cricketer admitted that the experience had made him understand some of the challenges of navigating Web3.

AB De Villeres invested early in XRP

The legendary cricketer further revealed in the interview that he is a fan of XRPW token and that he started investing in it even before the SEC lawsuit started. AB de Villiers, who holds the record for scoring the fastest hundred in ODIs in just 31 balls, said he was introduced to crypto through his brothers. However, he kept crypto at bay and remained skeptical for a few years before getting into it. The cricketer further revealed that he likes Bore Ape NFTs, Neo Tokyo and Impostors.
