Christie’s organized a charity auction with proceeds going to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Eleven digital works of art were sold at the auction in the form of NFTs.

The ‘Bridging Worlds: Digital Art Beyond Borders’ charity auction ran from October 23 and closed on October 30, 2024. According to the final bid prices listed on Christie’s site, the auction raised a total of $51,387 from the sale of digital art brought up.

The auction was curated by Micol Ap and featured 11 digital artworks donated by a number of digital artists including Erick Calderon aka Snowfro, IX Shells, Mario Klingemann and Niceaunties.

“The sale aims to explore the transformative power of digital art in connecting worlds, transcending boundaries and fostering a sense of unity between diverse artistic practices,” Christie’s said on its X-post.

For the charity auction, Christie’s partnered with the Switzerland Innovation Unit for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency’s national partner for Switzerland. Switzerland also posted a message in support of the auction for UNHCR, urging users to bid on their favorite digital artworks.

The digital piece that received the highest bid price was named “Niceburg” by Singaporean artist Niceaunties. Niceburg features a video made from AI art that shows a group of grandmothers living in the frozen landscape of an Arctic tundra known as Niceburg.

The digital artwork featured in Christie’s promotional video is ‘Crush’ by Andreas Gysin.
