In an effort to bring Mattel’s iconic fashion doll brand to the metaverse, Barbie has joined forces with Boss beauties to introduce their Boss Beauties x Barbie digital collectibles.
Celebrating 250 careers in the Barbie line, the collection aims to inspire women and girls to believe they can achieve anything. The collection combines the signature styles of both Barbie and Boss Beauties and includes career traits such as artists, astronauts, CEOs, doctors, vets and pilots.
Available on MattelCreations.com and priced at $25 per pack, the Flow-based NFTs are designed to be accessible to Web3 newcomers. The collection offers several rarities, with each pack containing four randomly selected Boss Beauties x Barbie collectibles. Early access to the collection began May 10, ahead of its official launch on May 18, which coincides with a joint activation at Veecon.
“As Barbie continues her journey into the metaverse, we are proud to partner with Boss Beauties to empower women and collectors to explore Web3 through our virtual collection,” said Lisa McKnight, Mattel’s EVP and Global Head of Barbie and dolls. “After more than 250 careers, it’s only natural for Barbie to dive deeper into digital collecting by highlighting some of her most recognizable roles. Fans can now be inspired by and celebrate her professional achievements with these career-focused Boss Beauties x Barbie virtual collectibles.”
What’s next
To further their shared mission of empowering women, Barbie and Boss Beauties also jointly announced a $250,000 donation to the Barbie Dream Gap Project and the Boss Beauties Foundation.
The partnership brings Boss Beauties, the first female-led Web3 company to operate on both the New York Stock Exchange and the United Nations, closer to their goal of introducing one million women to Web3.
“As we enter the world of Web3, it is imperative that women be included,” said Boss Beauties CEO and co-founder Lisa Mayer. “Our work empowers women and girls as they navigate the evolving internet and career landscape, which aligns directly with Mattel’s mission to inspire them to believe they can be anything. This partnership will help introduce multiple generations of Barbie lovers to the world of Web3.”
Last month, Mayer was named an NFT100 honoree for the second year in a row.
