Merlin Chain, a well-known Bitcoin-anchored L2 network for smart contract capabilities, has announced a robust mainnet upgrade. The purpose of this exclusive mainnet upgrade is to improve Merlin Chain’s ZK authentication. As Merlin Chain revealed in its official The purpose of this step is therefore to delve into a ZK authentication infrastructure that is directly connected to Bitcoin Mainnet.
⚠️ Mainnet upgrade notification
Merlin Chain will undergo a comprehensive upgrade of the ZK infrastructure, Sequencer nodes and internal validator nodes to explore a ZK authentication architecture based on the Bitcoin Mainnet, laying the foundation for future improvements to the network…

Merlin Chain is undergoing an exclusive Mainnet upgrade to increase scalability and security
With the new mainnet upgrade, Merlin Chain is improving its ZK authentication mechanism. This will pave the way for future scalability and improved network security. Notably, the upgrade will begin on November 7 at 12:00 UTC. Additionally, the upgrade’s estimated downtime is reportedly 24-48 hours.
As included in Merlin Chain’s latest mainnet upgrade, the platform aims to cement its status as an advanced Bitcoin L2 solution. To this end, it strives to strengthen the underlying ZK infrastructure. In this regard, Zero-Knowledge proofs, which denote a cryptographic technique for transaction verification without the exposure of sensitive data, play a key role in improving blockchain efficiency and privacy. Thus, with the integration of the Bitcoin-based ZK validation model, the platform focuses on ensuring a relatively decentralized and secure consensus mechanism.
Network operations are automatically restored after a new upgrade
According to Merlin Chain, the mainnet upgrade will give users access to historical transfers and account balances via the block explorer. The respective initiative ensures transparency and seamless access to the data in the chain, while optimizing the backend components. Upon completion of the upgrade, the platform will automatically return to normal operation.
