British prosecutors are considering charging self-proclaimed Bitcoin creator Craig Wright with perjury and document forgery

Self-proclaimed Bitcoin (BTC) creator Craig Wright may face prosecution in Britain for claiming he is the inventor of the world’s first and leading cryptocurrency.

In March, the chair of the case brought against Wright by industry group Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) said there is overwhelming evidence that the computer scientist is not the author of the Bitcoin white paper.

In a court document dated July 16, Judge James Mellor of the British Supreme Court reiterated his findings, saying Wright lied extensively and falsified documents to support his false story.

“All in all, ‘all his lies and forged documents were in support of his biggest lie: his claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto.’ By advancing his false claim of Satoshi through multiple legal actions, Dr. Wright ‘a very serious abuse’ of the process of the courts of Britain, Norway and the US.”

Mellor says he is now following COPA’s request to refer the case documents to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the body that carries out criminal prosecutions in England and Wales.

He says the CPS will decide whether legal action for perjury and falsification of documents against Wright is justified.

“As set out throughout my COPA ruling, I have no doubt that I should refer the relevant papers in this case to the CPS for consideration as to whether charges should be brought against Dr. Wright regarding his massive perjury and falsification of documents and/or whether a warrant should be issued for his arrest and/or whether his extradition should be requested wherever he may be.”
