Web3 gaming continues to take small steps forward.
For example, Animoca Brands and the layer-2 blockchain ‘LightLink’ collaborated this week to create gas-free Ethereum games.
That sounds both confusing and inconsistent.
But here’s the deal:
A gaming world that has no gas fees (aka crypto transaction fees) helps lower a major barrier to entry.
(Because who wants to have to pay every time they pick up an item in the game? No, thank you.)
Finding a way to sustainably subsidize these fees will open the door for a lot of onboarding into the Web3 space, through gaming.
Whether Animoca and LightLink have come up with a solution durable way to cover gas costs, or just take one for the team – is unclear.
(Our guess is the latter).
Either way, this will make the Web3 gaming world more accessible and user-friendly.
