Lighthouse Protocol, an initiative that simulates transactions, aims to put an end to the security issues arising from the use of unknown smart contracts in Solana. The project, which is currently in testing phase and expected to be included in more wallets this year, would avoid the execution of any move that unexpectedly changes the outcome of a transaction.
Project Lighthouse to address the problem of wallet drainage on Solana
Lighthouse Protocol, a smart contract designed to make Solana’s Web3 environment easier to use, expects to reach mass adoption later this year. The initiative, which aims to address the wallet-emptying problem in the Solana blockchain, uses assertions (instructions that attempt to verify the correctness of assumptions in a transaction) to simulate the changes resulting from a transaction.
For example, if a signed transaction wants to send 0.1 SOL, but Lighthouse predicts that its ultimate goal is to drain the entire contents of a wallet, the execution of this move will fail, protecting the user from draining. Lighthouse will provide a standalone and open source solution for implementing these assertions, which can be used for free in any wallet to prevent these attacks.
According to Solincinerator project lead Slorg, Lighthouse aims to avoid several techniques used by attacking groups to collaborate on the mass adoption of Solana, allowing less tech-savvy users to test decentralized finance without being easy prey for attackers.
Slorg stated that the goal of implementing Lighthouse goes beyond curbing these incidents, and that its use is only possible on Solana. He stated:
Once the initial goal of having Lighthouse adopted by all wallets is achieved (it’s open source), there are ambitions to focus on advancing public goods and security on Solana for all.
Slorg stated that this tool is expected to be deployed to wallets later this year, but Lighthouse is already in the mainnet and will be deployed in January by jac0xb.sol, the main contributor. He also explained that the project is currently in discussions with other projects interested in involving Lighthouse in their developments.
