UK Startup Opalysys Debuts Server for Blockchains

Opalysys, a startup based in the UK aimed at safe computer use, has introduced what it claims to be the world’s first server for block chains that can process data on a scale without decoding.

The LightLocker node of the company is a server that uses completely homomorphic coding (FHE), a mathematical technique with which calculations can be performed on encrypted data without jeopardizing the coding.

In the past year, a few companies have raised money and exploring FHE applications within the cryptocurrency space. Opalysys says that the serverhearware is purposefully built for blockchain coding and offers a cheaper alternative to costly and inefficient GPU-based systems, with the help of 40% less energy.

Opalysys, based in Leeds, England, was founded in 2013 by Dr. Nick New (CEO) and Robert Todd (CTO). In July 2023, the company collected a Serie A of 21 million pounds ($ 28 million).

“To use blockchain technologies on a scale, infrastructure that supports confidential computing is essential,” said CEO New in a statement.

“Traditional hardware solutions for encrypted blockchain are expensive and inefficient. Chips for general use are also not designed for the specific requirements of encrypted transaction processing,” New added.
