Zimbabwe is turning into blockchain to breathe new life into the trust of the carbon credit of carbon credit

Zimbabwe has launched a blockchain-compatible carbon credit register to improve transparency and to restore investor confidence after previous disruptions in the carbon credit market. In 2023, the country was confronted with a recoil for abrupt cancellation of projects and claiming part of the proceeds, which influence developers such as the Kariba Redd+ project. Since then, authorities have established the Zimbabwe Carbon Markets Authority to supervise the registrations of Carbon Credit Project. The new register, developed by A6 Labs based in Dubai, is advertised worldwide as the first of its kind and ensures fully traceable transactions, thereby guaranteeing the integrity of the carbon market. Zimbabwe, an important producer of carbon credits in Africa, is intended to regulate industry more effectively, whereby developers needed to apply and satisfy specific criteria to participate.
