The Cosmos ecosystem is set to transform blockchain interoperability with IBC Eureka, the upgrade to its Interblockchain communication (IBC) protocol. The first transaction between Cosmos Hub (Atom) and Ethereum was successfully made on Friday, March 28, with possible implications for user and developer experience in web3.
Magnas Mareneck, Co-CEO at the newly formed Interchain Labs, noticed:
“Eureka! Cosmos Hub MAINNET has now sent his first live IBC transaction to Ethereum … And back! The content: 1 $ Atom. The message: I love Cosmos”
Barry Plunkett, co-CEO from Interchain Labs, posted:
“First Ethereum, then the world. In the rest of the year we will expand the newer, much simpler IBC protocol in all crypto”
IBC Eureka wants to introduce significant improvements in IBC, including faster transactions, improved security and extensive compatibility with non-Cosmos networks such as Ethereum and Solana.
IBC Eureka lowers technical barriers for developers
By simplifying IBC implementation and optimizing packeteles processes, EUREKA lowers technical barriers for developers, making seamless integration of new chains possible and makes it possible to make a wider acceptance of cross-chain applications.
The upgrade also introduces middleware functionality, so that developers can expand the possibilities of IBC without changing the core protocol, freeing the way for innovative usage cases in the decentralized finances (Defi) and interchain ecosystems.
The first direct IBC transaction between Cosmos Hub and Ethereum shows the ability of the protocol to connect independent blockchains native, which unlocks new possibilities for assets and data exchange in various networks.
The integration of Ethereum in Cosmos via IBC could considerably revitalize Defi applications by making the liquid movement of assets possible and creating advanced financial products.
While Cosmos works to set up IBC as the universal standard for blockchain communication, the Eureka upgrade can serve to strengthen a touch of sentiment in the Cosmos ecosystem. Despite the indigenous atoma trade ~ 90% lower than the all-time high, community sentiment was 78% bullish on the news.
