In this article, we’ll see how you can participate in the upcoming crypto airdrop of Ethereum’s new Sony blockchain, Soneium, layer-2.

The project team recently launched the testnet program “Soneium Minato”, hinting at possible economic rewards for the farmers.

The mainnet launch of the new chain is expected in the first half of 2025.

Let’s look at everything in detail below.

  • Soneium: Sony’s new layer-2 blockchain
  • Soneium Minato: Testnet initiative with possible crypto airdrop rewards
  • How to participate in the Soneium (Sony) crypto airdrop: bridge testnet badge
  • Other interactions to earn the crypto airdrop

Soneium: Sony’s new layer-2 blockchain

The electronics giant released it at the end of August Sony announced the launch of its own Ethereum layer-2 blockchain, called Sonium.

This is one scaling solution designed to connect the poles of web2 and web3focused on performance efficiency.

Technically, it represents a zk-rollup network, built over the OP infrastructure stack and designed for maximum transaction scalability in shorter times.

In the future it may be included in the Superchain of Optimism (which also includes Base, Zora and OP Mainnet), but nothing is known about it yet.

At this point we know that at the major partners of the ecosystem there will be Astar Network, an entity connected to Polkadot. The collaboration between the parties will lead to greater external interoperability with Astar ZkEVM compatibility.

Sonyat the inauguration of the new blockchain, spoke about an inclusive network, beneficial for cryptographic developers and content creators.

However, the Japanese company has not mentioned in its ambitious plans the intention to reward new users with one crypto airdrop.

We’re actually not sure if Sony will offer one premium for early adoptersbut given the presence of such a giant, it is better not to miss the potential of this opportunity.

As we will see in the following paragraphs, participation is free and with a positive result the airdrop will be very interesting.

Soneium Minato: Testnet initiative with possible crypto airdrop rewards

Immediately after Soneium was presented to the public, Sony launched a testnet program called “Soneium Minato”, with a possible connection air drop .

It’s not confirmed, but it is likely that those who interact with the crypto network during this period will be rewarded with the project’s new governance token.

The ultimate goal of launching in testnet is to provide developers and makers with an environment where they can indeed test the various functionalities of the network.

The initiative makes it possible to collect valuable feedback and use it to improve services before the official launch on the mainnet.

At this stage, anyone can get in touch with Sony’s blockchain product, develop a new resource or explore the different applications available.

Obviously it’s a trial version, Sonium does not require real money, just testnet tokens that can be requested for free.

This means you can try to participate in the airdrop without risking losing money.

The price will certainly not be comparable to that of real farming operations, but it is still a good opportunity to seize.

Make sure you have at least a few hours a week to spend on interactions.

How to participate in the Soneium (Sony) crypto airdrop: bridge testnet badge

Participate in the crypto airdrop from Soneium is very simple and intuitive, as long as you have basic knowledge of DeFi and web3.

The first thing do to try to earn a share of the profits Sony token, is to bridge test funds on the Minato testnet network.

This step is fundamental for all subsequent interactions, so don’t skip it.

You can solve this step by initially requesting ETH through the Alchemy faucet on the Ethereum Sepolia network.

However, you can only request 0.1 ETH every 72 hours. Alternatively, you can search for other faucets. From here, once you have obtained the Sepolia network tokens, we can move to the respective blockchain. Here is the official link of the bridge.

It is recommended to repeat the operation several times for each address from which you grow the crypto airdrop.

The second step is the hitting of the so-called “testnet badge”.

This badge ensures our presence on the list of tier-2 early adopter users.

To obtain it, simply go to the official badges.space website, select the Soneium network, enter your EVM address and click mint.

You can also choose to perform some actions first (transfer, trade on DEX) before minting the NFT to get a higher score.

The higher the score, the greater the chance of a good airdrop.

The wallets available for connection are MetaMask, Phantom, Injected and Wallet Connect.

Other interactions to earn the crypto airdrop

Other methods to interact with the Soneium testnet and attempt to qualify for the crypto airdrop are involved Web3 social platforms.

For example, on layer 3, a section related to Soneium Minato has been added, where users can complete tasks and obtain the distinctive badge.

The tasks are very simple, such as following social profiles, reading press releases and small other actions.

Once the tasks are completed, we can claim the rewards (XP points + badge) and then wait for further news about the official launch of the blockchain.

Recently even Galxa web3 data networking platform, has added a page for Soneium’s layer-2, hinting at an upcoming airdrop.

Sometimes the projects that plan to distribute a token to the community rely on Galxe to identify an initial user base.

At the moment there don’t appear to be any tasks that need to be resolved, but they may be added soon.

In the meantime, try it execute as many transactions as possible on the Soneium testnet DEX and interact with various smart contracts. You can find all available dapps on the official ecosystem website.
