Grass Network’s highly anticipated GRASS airdrop got off to a rocky start, leaving many users frustrated as they encountered issues accessing their tokens.
What happened?
The surge in demand caused significant downtime for wallet provider Phantom, which went unresponsive for nearly three hours on October 28 as users claimed their GRASS tokens en masse.
According to Phantom’s status page, a back-end issue disrupted services at 1:36 PM UTC, while operations resumed at 4:20 PM UTC.
This was the second service disruption this month, following an eight-minute outage on October 3.
Making the same comment on this, the Phantom team went to X and noted:
“We are currently experiencing an uptime incident and some services may be temporarily disrupted. If you need to make a transaction urgently, please ignore the simulation errors and try using a dapp.”
Users express their frustration
An hour after the GRASS airdrop went live, numerous users took to X to express their frustration over their inability to access the distributed tokens.
Many users reported that despite initially being marked as eligible on Grass Network’s airdrop checker, their wallet addresses showed an “ineligible” message.
This unexpected outage left several participants confused and disappointed as they continued to wait to access their airdropped tokens.

Grass Crypto’s airdrop plans
For context, this airdrop, touted as one of the most significant recent launches, saw the Grass Foundation allocate 10% of the 1 billion capped supply of the GRASS token.
Of this, 1.5% will be reserved for early closed alpha testers, while a further 7% will be distributed to participants in periods 1 – 7.
The lack of allocations for the Bonus Epoch and future distribution plans in the initial release has only increased the frustration among supporters. Especially since they have consistently expressed concerns about the model.
Following the resolution, Phantom on X announced that its team would “closely monitor the situation” and implement measures to prevent future disruptions.

Is there more to it?
As expected, the GRASS token has seen significant price fluctuations since its launch. Shortly after going live, the token’s value fell 28%, reaching a low of $0.65 before recovering 9%.
However, the latest update of Coin gecko revealed that GRASS was trading at $1.10 at the time of writing, reflecting a 20.4% increase in the past 24 hours.
Needless to say, several airdrops have suffered setbacks, with Hamster Kombat (HMSTR) also being a notable example.
These examples highlight the complex and often turbulent nature of token distributions, especially amid high demand and technical challenges.
