Will the SEC’s Latest Setback Speed Up the Approval of BTC ETF Applications?

  • As the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States, Coinbase will benefit from the possible approval of a Bitcoin ETF.
  • Grewal remains optimistic about the future of Bitcoin ETFs and believes the SEC will process pending ETF applications impartially and legally.

In a recent development, Coinbase Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal expressed confidence in the eventual approval of a US Bitcoin strategy. [BTC] exchange rate fund [ETF] by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Grewal highlighted the recent legal defeat suffered by the SEC in blocking Grayscale from converting its GBTC bitcoin fund into an ETF. This setback has heightened expectations that a bitcoin-related ETF will soon receive regulatory approval.

‘I’m hopeful that this one [ETF] requests will be granted, if only because they should be granted according to the law,” Grewal explained in a statement interview with CNBC.

Grewal did not specify a timeline for this possible approval. However, he emphasized that the SEC has a favorable environment for awarding Bitcoin ETFs. This is in view of the legal implications of the court’s recent setback.

Grewal noted that prominent financial services companies with strong propositions have expressed interest in offering Bitcoin-related products and services. This interest suggested that the SEC would likely make progress in approving Bitcoin ETFs in the near future.

While the decision ultimately rests with the SEC, recent legal precedent set by the U.S. Court of Appeals indicates that the regulatory body cannot arbitrarily reject ETF applications. Coinbase expects the SEC to fulfill its responsibilities in approving Bitcoin ETFs in accordance with the law, in line with the court’s ruling.

Grewal expresses hope for approval of Bitcoin ETF with positive indicators

A Bitcoin ETF has significant potential when it comes to providing an easy investment option to gain exposure to BTC without purchasing the cryptocurrency directly on an exchange. This could appeal to retail investors who want to participate in the cryptocurrency market without physically owning the underlying digital assets.

As the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States, Coinbase will benefit from the possible approval of a Bitcoin ETF. It is a common stock held in portfolios designed to introduce investors to the world of cryptocurrency.

Grewal remains optimistic about the future of Bitcoin ETFs. He believes the SEC will process pending ETF applications impartially and legally. This is expected to pave the way for the launch of multiple ETFs.

Grewal acknowledges the challenges, but remains hopeful that accountability through criminal justice processes and regulatory measures will improve the industry’s reputation. He hopes this will stimulate investor and consumer interest in the crypto sector.

Gensler’s comments on the ETFs are…

Meanwhile, SEC Chairman Gary Gensler confirmed the review of multiple Bitcoin spot ETF applications. He stated that applicants must go through a process similar to a public offering. However, he did not clarify whether the SEC would approve individual ETFs or wait to approve them as a group.

Gensler avoided commenting on the Grayscale case, whose ETF rejection was recently deemed “arbitrary and capricious.” Speculation arises that there may be an ongoing battle behind the scenes. Some applicants have filed amended applications for their spot Bitcoin ETFs, including Fidelity, ARK Invest and Invesco Galaxy. The SEC has approved Bitcoin futures ETFs, but not Bitcoin ETFs.
