New Major Donors Support Reform Party
In the first quarter of 2026, prominent donors Harborne and Delo contributed approximately 3 million and 4 million pounds, respectively, to the Reform Party. These donations accounted for around 76% of the party’s reported donations, excluding public funds. Nigel Farage, the leader of the Reform Party, has actively pursued support from the industry.
During the Bitcoin conference in Las Vegas in May 2025, Farage announced plans to establish a bitcoin reserve at the Bank of England, implement a 10% capital gains tax on cryptoassets, and prevent banks from closing accounts due to crypto activity.
It is unclear whether the recent donations were made in cryptocurrency, as Harborne’s previous 9-million-pound contribution was in cash. The Electoral Commission confirmed that no political party has reported donations in cryptoassets.
These donations come at a time when the Metropolitan Police is investigating allegations regarding Reform’s political contributions. Farage is also under scrutiny for a 5 million pound personal gift from Harborne prior to his election as an MP in 2024. Both Reform and Farage deny any wrongdoing.
In response to these developments, the government announced plans in March to prohibit political donations in cryptocurrency and cap contributions from overseas electors at 100,000 pounds annually.
