Blockchain startup BTQ proposes more energy-efficient alternative for Cryptos Proof of Work

A recently published magazine article from BTQ researchers, a startup that works on building blockchain technology that can withstand quantum computers attacks, has presented an alternative to the Proof of Work (POW) algorithm with quantum technology.

Proof of work is a blockchain -consensus mechanism that protects the Bitcoin network. Participants make mathematical problems to validate transactions due to enormous amounts of mathematical problems. Some have criticized the process as too energy-intensive, while others have argued the opposite.

Quantum Computing means that he leaves a process that depends on binary code, which and zeros, which open and close transistor stocks. Quantum bits (quubits) exist at the same time in several states, which increases computing power to the point at which modern coding is built by traditional computers-dependent from transistors and binary code threatened.

In his article, BTQ researchers set a quantum-based alternative to called coarse-grained foreston bemonsting (CGBS). This method uses light particles (forests) to generate unique patterns-samples-this reflection of the current status of the blockchain instead of hash-based mathematical puzzles.

The random sampling of these patterns would cause coding, in the same way that random numbers form the backbone of coding made by classic computers.

Boson-Sampling was initially made to prove something that Quantum Supremacy is called, a test that determines when a mathematical comparison is too complex for a classic computer.

These samples are grouped in categories, called bins, which make it easier to validate the results and confirm the work of the miner.

This approach replaces traditional cryptographic puzzles from POW with quantumba sampling tasks, so that energy consumption is considerably reduced and ensures that the network remains safe and decentralized.

Although BTQ’s proposal is theoretically interesting, it would require a hard fork of the Bitcoin network with miners and nodes that replace their existing ASIC-based hardware (computers made exclusively for the POW-Consensus mechanism) by quantum-ready infrastructure.

This would certainly be a Herculean effort and could lead to a fork as seen with the Blocksize ears of recent years.
