According to research by Aventus & Airport Perishables Handling (APH) at Heathrow Airport, airlines can save a total of 7% on their freight handling by using Web3-based solutions.
Since the 1990s, the global set of tools for ULD management has not changed, and it relies mainly on manual data entry. This poses serious problems for data visibility and accuracy, secure information sharing and expensive ULD losses, damage and delays, costing airlines more than $1.6 billion per year.
Web3 provides a powerful answer to the problems with conventional ULD management using blockchain technology, by:
- Enabling tamper-resistant, immutable documents that provide a single source of truth, resolve conflicts and improve regulatory compliance;
- Minimizing errors and reducing administrative costs by using self-executing smart contracts to automate manual tasks;
- To help airlines manage their operations, real-time visibility into the location, management and condition of the ULD is enabled. Data exchange is also streamlined.
Aventus, the market leader in providing end-to-end Web3 solutions for enterprises and parachain on Polkadot, found through a pilot study at Heathrow Airport that the cargo handling industry benefits greatly from its end-to-end blockchain-based solution in terms of visibility, accuracy and operational efficiency of data.
- 90% reduction in communication errors and accidents due to digital data collection;
- 83% less time spent on manual documentation;
- Real-time decision making is enabled by an 81% reduction in the interval between ULD stock updates – from 3 to 4 hours to just 30 minutes.
- A 28% reduction in charging times, caused by improved ULD charging loads.
Alan Vey, founder of Aventus, says:
“These results are truly remarkable and underline the transformative potential of blockchain, not just for the aviation industry, but for supply chains worldwide. We pride ourselves on enabling enterprises to improve data accuracy, reduce operational inefficiencies, and achieve greater transparency. As we expand our partnerships across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, we expect these results will only improve through network effects.”
Michelle Roosevelt, director at Aviation Perishables Handling, adds:
“Aventus technology is fast and responsive, which is essential in our busy airport environment. We have seen huge improvements in productivity. The app is more than a tool, it has reimagined the way we manage and track our aircraft containers, and the support and expertise of the Aventus team in meeting our needs has been excellent.”
Using Aventus’ aviation solution, the Polkadot ecosystem now has relationships with major companies such as Vodafone’s Digital Asset Broker, Aviation Perishables Handling at Heathrow Airport and other major airlines in Asia and the Middle East.
