- Drake made a $300,000 Bitcoin bet to support Canada at the 2024 Copa America.
- Daniel Regha criticized Drake’s bet as useless and predicted Argentina’s victory.
As the 2024 Copa America tournament neared its final, the Canadian rapper said Drake made headlines when he showed his support for his home country by taking a chance on crypto.
Drake’s Bet
Drake placed a hefty bet of $300,000 in Bitcoin via Instagram [BTC]accompanied by the caption ‘Messi can get this’, a playful nod to Argentina football icon Lionel Messi.

It’s worth noting that Drake’s $300,000 bet was not explicitly listed as cryptocurrency, but was made on Stake, an online casino platform where transactions typically involve cryptocurrencies.
However, Nigerian social media personality Daniel Regha dismissed Drake’s bet as a waste of money, stating:
“Canada cannot beat Argentina in the semi-finals of the Copa America; It’s almost an impossible prediction. What a way for Drake to lose money.”
Did the bet pay off?
The move took place ahead of the expected semi-final between Lionel Messi’s Argentina and Canada, scheduled for July 9.
As many expected, Drake lost the bet when Argentina won the match against Canada. Needless to say, if Canada had won, Drake’s $300,000 bet would have paid out $2,880,000 to the team.
That said, Drake making big bets on sports isn’t new. At the 2022 World Cup, he bet $1 million on Argentina to beat France, but Argentina only won after extra time in a penalty shootout.
This bet had cost Drake $1 million because Argentina did not win in regulation time. He also recently lost another $1 million betting on the Dallas Mavericks to win the NBA championship and the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup.
And so an obvious question arises: Will Drake continue his gambling despite losing, or learn from his mistakes?
