UK Businessman Invests $100 Million in Trump Family’s Crypto Project
Guren “Bobby” Zhou, a UK businessman with a controversial past, recently made headlines for his $100 million investment in tokens from the Trump family’s World Liberty Financial crypto project.
According to a report by The New York Times, Zhou, through his firm Aqua 1, completed the massive transaction, raising eyebrows due to his history of failed business ventures and money laundering investigations.
Just two years ago, Zhou was struggling as a hardwood flooring retailer in Britain and was under scrutiny for alleged money laundering activities. Additionally, he was involved in the collapse of a small cryptocurrency startup.
Despite his troubled past, Zhou emerged as a major investor in World Liberty Financial, expressing pride in his involvement during an audio stream on X. He stated, “We’re very proud to be a major player in the World Liberty, which is Trump’s family’s crypto venture.”
Under World Liberty’s policy, a significant portion of Zhou’s investment, up to $75 million, was funneled to a company controlled by the president and his three sons. While World Liberty maintains a compliance program that meets industry standards, questions remain about their due diligence regarding Zhou’s background.
Although information about Zhou’s money laundering investigation in England was publicly available, it is unclear how closely World Liberty scrutinized his past before accepting his substantial investment. The source of Zhou’s $100 million payment to World Liberty also remains shrouded in mystery.
