Hunter Biden has stood behind his upcoming LAPTOP memecoin, set to launch on Base on September 9th. He revealed that 20% of the token’s supply will be distributed through community airdrops, with an additional 30% tied to political, crypto, and cultural predictions.
The LAPTOP project aims to reclaim the controversy surrounding Hunter Biden’s laptop, which has been a subject of scrutiny for years. Biden addressed the skepticism around the project, acknowledging the misuse of such situations by opportunists.
Comparing LAPTOP to President Donald Trump’s TRUMP memecoin, which saw significant losses for its holders, Biden emphasized the differences and highlighted the losses suffered by TRUMP holders. Nearly 989,000 wallets holding TRUMP faced a combined $3.81 billion in unrealized losses.
Despite the initial backlash from the crypto community and Kraken deleting a promotional post, Biden remains committed to the launch of LAPTOP. The token will have a total supply of 1 billion tokens on the Base network, with allocations for community distributions, founders, and events.
The community allocation will include tokens for wallets that lost money holding TRUMP, among other groups. Additionally, 30% of the supply is linked to predetermined political, crypto, and cultural predictions, where tokens will be either burned or sent to charity based on the outcomes.
The launch plan for LAPTOP includes events such as the 2028 US presidential election, Bitcoin reaching new all-time highs, and LAPTOP surpassing TRUMP’s market capitalization. Founders, including Biden, will have a share of the supply with lockups and vesting restrictions.
Biden clarified that LAPTOP is not a promise of financial returns and urged buyers to understand the token’s purpose of making a statement rather than focusing solely on financial gains.
The criticism of TRUMP’s losses and the incorporation of losing TRUMP wallets into the LAPTOP distribution model highlight the competitive nature of political memecoins within the crypto space.
As the launch date approaches, resistance from crypto traders, the deletion of promotional posts, and distancing from associated parties have added to the controversy surrounding LAPTOP. Base founder Jesse Pollak clarified that the network chose not to be involved in designing or promoting the token.
By turning the laptop controversy into a branding opportunity for the token, Hunter Biden aims to reclaim the narrative and use the project as a platform to address the issues that have plagued him in the past. The LAPTOP memecoin launch will be a significant event in the evolving landscape of political memecoins in the crypto market.
