MEV resistance functions integrated in NEO X Testnet

Anti-MEV functionality has been launched on the NEO X EVM Sidechain TestNet. Activated at block height 2,088,000, introduces the upgrade -covered transactions and threshold signature support to improve the fairness and network security of the transaction.

MEV strategies – where miners, validators or bots transactions again organize, insert or censor to extract the profit – are responsible for billions of dollars of user losses annually. These practices do not affect retail users and undermine the integrity of Defi products built on block chains. NEO X is partially developed to reduce these exploits through an approach designed to prevent manipulation at transaction level by its network validators.

To cover transactions: a three-step mev defense

The NEO X approach concentrates on ‘covered transactions’, a technique designed to cover up transaction details until after completion of the block. The mechanism follows a three -step process:

  • Encryption: transactions are encrypted or ‘covered’ before you reach Consensu nodes. This prevents Validators and MEV seekers from identifying transactions that can produce an extra -up value.
  • Uniform processing: Consensus junctions treat all covered transactions identical and packaging them in addition to normal, non -codeed transactions.
  • Threshold decoration: Once the transaction order has been completed, the network carries out threshold codes. This step requires two -thirds of the consensus junctions to work together in decoding transactions and completing the block.

The three -step process is made possible by ‘Distributed Key Generation’, a cryptographic technique implemented by the NEO X Development Team.

Achieving a Single-Block Finality

Neo X previously required a delay of one block for Block Hash Finality due to possible reorganization problems. A reorganization, or ‘reorg’, occurs when a junction discovers a new, longer chain and switches to this chain from the previous longest chain, which effectively changes the historical record of the network. This delay of a block delay has the services depending on immediate finality, such as XSIG’s multi-signature wallet.

With the integration of threshold blocks signatures, the network now reaches a single-block hash finality. This improvement reduces the potential for reorgs and improves the usability and safety of the Sidechain.

Developers who are interested in experimenting with the MEV-resistant EVM environment can explore the available documentation or join the official NEO Discord Server for further involvement.
