Multichain NFT protocol Holograph dropped its latest collaboration on Tuesday, combining a recognizable, “blue chip” NFT featuring one of the most iconic memes in history.
Titled “KilroyPunk“The collectible is a riff on CryptoPunk #8527, owned by the pseudonymous Delegate Cash creator and Crypto Twitter personality foobar, who has long used the NFT as his profile picture. It combines foobar’s famous NFT with the work of Eric Elmsshowcasing the vision of the California-based artist Kilroy.
The partnership comes as Holograph attempts to gain a foothold in the NFT space, marking the third offering of the multichain protocol through its consumer-facing application. Released as part of an open-edition coin, meaning the collectible can be claimed an unlimited number of times, costs $15 and is available for 48 hours.

“It’s a nice remix on top of classic punk,” foobar said Decrypt, pointing out that CryptoPunk 8537 has played an essential role in promoting brand recognition over time. Foobar has about 133,000 followers on Twitter.

Elms said his work often revolves around printed materials that are transformed through collage to create new meaning. So, as an artist from outside the NFT space, he felt it was important to pay homage to CryptoPunks’ pixelated style, which is inherently digital.
“To me, there’s a rich history of Native NFT art,” Elms said. “It is important not only to apply the technology, but also to engage with the rich visual and conceptual history of the subculture.”
Leading up to NFT’s launch, the collaboration was teased on the streets of New York City in a manner inspired by counterculture trends in streetwear and skate circles, Holograph CEO and co-founder Jeff Gluck told me. Decrypt.

Created by the team at CXIP Labs, Holograph takes a multi-chain approach to digital collectibles, allowing users to hit NFTs on their favorite chain or switch them between different networks. As of now, the protocol supports Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, BNB Chain, and Optimism.
NFTs are unique digital tokens that correspond to ownership of an item, often digital art, and those assets usually exist on a single blockchain – initially at least.
Recognizable projects such as the gods AndDoodles have branched out over time from the chains on which they were created and expanded into new networks. Foobar said Holograph addresses some of the pain points inherent in this process.
“For a long time I thought we needed a unified user-first experience rather than each project recreating its own cross-chain mechanisms,” said foobar.
Holographic’s previous issue featured the work of artist Jasmine Monsegue, also known as Spacebrat, and her free NFT– which was also the first of her career – was beaten more than 300,000 times in the space of 48 hours. A majority of NFTs were minted on Polygon, the Ethereum scaling platform.
Gluck said many people who have slapped their Holograph NFTs on Polygon were probably trying to avoid high gas costs compared to other networks like Ethereum, demonstrating an advantage of a multichain approach.
“It makes no sense to have an asset in silos and locked onto a single blockchain,” he said. “Consumers and makers are starting to understand the need for a chain approach.”
