DCENT, a popular wallet app, recently issued a warning to its users regarding abnormal asset transfers on Sept. 16. The team behind DCENT flagged these suspicious transfers and urged users to move their assets to a secure hardware wallet or another trusted wallet address. The issue seems to be limited to the DCENT App Wallet, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause.
Founded by security experts with a background in Secure Element (SE) and Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) technologies, DCENT Wallet is managed by IoTrust Co., Ltd. Users were advised to transfer their assets if they hold any amount in the DCENT App Wallet or use the same mnemonic phrase for both the app and a hardware wallet.
The incident announcement on DCENT’s social media platform sparked concerns among users, with questions arising about the security of seed phrases generated via hardware wallets. The DCENT team clarified that no action is needed if users only connect their device and never entered the phrase in the app.
In the midst of security incidents plaguing the crypto industry, DCENT’s warning adds to a string of breaches and hacks. Other recent incidents include a malicious infiltration at Swiss Bitcoin Pay, exploits on Symbiosis’s bitcoin bridge, unbacked nBTC at Nomic, and BTC reserves being siphoned from Liquid Network.
DCENT reassured users that they are prioritizing the investigation into the incident and will provide updates through official channels once the cause, scope of impact, and response measures are confirmed. As security remains a top priority in the crypto space, users are advised to remain vigilant against impersonation and phishing attempts.
As the crypto industry grapples with security challenges, it is crucial for users to take proactive measures to protect their assets and stay informed about potential risks. Stay tuned for further updates from DCENT as the investigation progresses.
