The same thing happens every cycle. A story hits, capital follows and the roadmaps are rewritten around it. A year later, half of those bets seem like lost quarters. The hardest part is deciding what Actually worth building before everyone finds out if it was.
In DeFi, that decision is becoming increasingly expensive. There is more to build than any one team can chase, there are more “inevitable” futures than any treasury can fund, and there is less patience in the market for stories that don’t pan out. For anyone currently devoting technical hours or capital into DeFi, a wrong choice means a burned year.
That is why we make the choices public. On July 2 at 5:00 PM CETChangelly is host Build it or Kill it: DeFi Editiona live debate in which the people building DeFi discuss on the record about which stories deserve the next cycle’s attention and which have already been sidelined.
Highlights of the discussion
Each of these topics involves real money and real belief, but also industry people betting against them:
- Will cross-chain bridges disappear completely? Users are done thinking about chains, gas tokens, and wrapped assets. Will victory be in bridges being made invisible through chain abstraction, or will they still make a living?
- Are AI agents a must-have, or a pre-infrastructure story? Autonomous protocols, hands-off returns, wallets that work for you. Is it real evolution or a premature story?
- Is it too late to build a stock market? As wallets turn into all-in-one super-apps and native cross-chain swaps, are DEXs and the wallets around them quietly replacing the exchange itself?
- Can stablecoins on DEXs match centralized order books? Is decentralized liquidity ready to do the heavy lifting, or not yet?
- Is self-control the default future or a niche? Does user-owned crypto bridge the gap to the mainstream, or will it lag behind?
- Is regulated DeFi the only realistic path to mass adoption? Necessary compromise or contradiction in terms?
Some of them survive the next cycle, and some are killed on stage, because the format is based on pushback. Builders and skeptics take opposite corners of each story and defend them live with no moderator to hide behind and no rehearsed consensus. One verdict for every trend: build it or kill it? A live Q&A for the audience also means that the question panels are usually not asked directly.
