This week, an unknown crypto user named “nd4.eth” has attracted attention after “burning” or destroying approximately $8 million worth of cryptocurrency and high-value blue-chip NFTs – without explanation – leaving the crypto and NFT communities bewildered and deeply curious.

The anonymous trader destroyed $3.3 million worth of GMX and GNS crypto tokens, including several and very expensive NFTs, just days after he also, without explanation, burned about $4.5 million worth of assets (about 2,500 ETH at the moment of writing). ).

In addition to the tokens, several high-value NFTs were also sent to oblivion. These include pieces from Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), three Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) NFTs, and the coveted CryptoPunk #5237. Taking a closer look at the current floor prices of each of these NFT projects, it was estimated to be worth around $225,000 (or 122 ETH) at the time of writing.

However, this bizarre behavior in both transactions was not done through a sale or transfer, but by sending these assets to a designated wallet address that no one owns or has access to – taking all those assets out of circulation and forever untouched and are inaccessible.

While in most cases the strategy behind digital asset burning is mostly deliberate to increase scarcity and value by reducing the overall market supply, the underlying motivations of nd4.eth’s sudden digital destruction remain a complete mystery.

Arkham Intelligence, a crypto analytics firm, noted the user’s recent activities in a Twitter post:

“After a day of silence, nd4.eth burned another $3.59 million in tokens today – most of which he has held for months. Since January of this year, nd4.eth purchased GNS and >$1 million GMX from Uniswap for $1.8 million. He decided to burn everything in the last 2 hours – still without explanation.”
