Basic, the EVM chain supported by Coinbase threw as Ethereum’s own layer 2, has just received its strongest approval, directly from Vitalik Buterin.
In a rare shoutout on social media, Vitalik declared the basis in the right way to scale and offer a faster user experience through centralized sequencing, while they remain connected to Ethereum’s security layer, which means that funds cannot be stolen or frozen.
Vitalik explained that Base has no custody, recordings are guaranteed by the Ethereum Manet code and the L2Beat Stage 1 Tag means that users are really protected against carpet tarfs, rather than just a marketing conversation. He also rejected the idea that L2’s are “only servers”, with reference to examples where the censorship was blocked and the funds remained safe, even when operators were offline.
Even the arrangement of the Basic Council includes external members to prevent unilateral control.
Coinbase CEO Armstrong responds
Brian Armstrong has not written a long essay, but easily stimulated the thread with a short remark: “Great thread to read on the base”, which is sufficient to show that Coinbase fully supports the perspective of Vitalik.
Great thread to read on at @Base https://t.co/Sduhhehci

From the base side, Jesse Pollak outdown how sequencers work: they bundle and order transactions, then the main layer will establish them and at any time a user can completely bypass the base by straightening through Ethereum. He added that the basis is already running on stage-ig decentralization, with permissionless block proposals live, while phase 2 is underway.
Is the basic legitimate?
The collection meals are clear that the basis is not a custody or a disguised exchange. It is Ethereum infrastructure built to scale up without breaking confidence. Vitalik endorsed it, Armstrong strengthened it and now the debate about the legitimacy of the base seems to be over.
