In an announcement, Voice said it would cease operations in the coming months, suspend new user registrations and close its commerce marketplace. However, existing user assets remain secure and will have the option to migrate to EOS, Polygon or Ethereum within weeks. These assets will remain accessible on the platform until December 31, 2024.
Originally conceived as a social platform, the company was launched in June 2019 by EOS founder BM and received critical acclaim as an industry-transforming application. Block.one invested $150 million in Voice in 2020, giving it operational independence. As of March 2020, Block.one’s total investments in the platform amounted to $300 million. Nevertheless, the platform experienced poor user experiences after launch, leading to a pivot to an NFT creation and trading platform.
In their official statement, they expressed their commitment to the potential of Web3 and its creators, saying:
“We still believe in the enormous potential that Web3 offers to empower creators. We’ll see you there in the coming months and years. We thank our artists for their close collaboration to shape the future of art.”
Recognized for its carbon neutral status, ease of use, and multi-chain compatibility, Voice was a groundbreaking platform that provided accessible entry into the NFT ecosystem and served as the first step for creators venturing into the space.
