In a recent YouTube video, Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, clarified his position on his participation in the Cardano ecosystem’s NFT (Non-Fungible Token) projects. Hoskinson explained during a broadcast from Colorado that while he prominently displays Apes Society artwork in his office, it was a gift and he has not received any payment or approval for it.
He further stated that he has a general policy of not personally owning NFTs from projects within the Cardano ecosystem. “I don’t get and wouldn’t accept messages of support from them,” Hoskinson added, noting that while he appreciates the NFT art he’s received, his presentation of a particular project’s work should not be interpreted as an approval.
Hoskinson further explained that his non-participation in these NFT projects is to establish a neutral baseline. He stressed that he never publicly discloses an address where he can receive some NFTs, despite receiving numerous offers.
Its neutrality prevents the perception of favoritism towards any particular NFT project in the Cardano ecosystem. “I fully appreciate that there are very strong groups of people and they have the specific things that make them fun and exciting to be a part of, and sometimes they get quite tribal,” he said.
He also discussed tribalism and strong community ties within the Cardano NFT ecosystem. Hoskinson called on these groups to come together and talk about their needs as NFT companies. The crypto tycoon says he enjoys interacting with various NFT makers and communities, especially at Cardano-focused conferences, but reiterates that he has no direct involvement in the day-to-day decisions of any specific NFT project.
Hoskinson’s comments may dampen speculation about his influence over Cardano’s NFT projects and inspire more confidence in its decentralization.
