Fleek, an edge-optimized onchain cloud platform, and Polygon Labs, known for building a network of aggregated blockchains, have announced a strategic partnership.

This partnership aims to deliver high-quality, permissionless web services tailored to Polygon CDK projects and other initiatives on the Polygon network. Fleek’s recent benchmarks have shown the potential to outperform traditional cloud services such as AWS Lambda.
In conjunction with this partnership, Fleek is launching its first public testnet, featuring CDN and JavaScript Runtime services, with Edge Functions as the first use case.
“We are excited to partner with Polygon Labs to provide Polygon CDK developers with onchain alternatives for their cloud infrastructure needs. Our goal is to develop web services that deliver real benefits from both decentralization and self-sovereignty perspectives, but also in terms of performance, cost and developer experience.”
Harrison Hines, CEO of Fleek
Fleek’s infrastructure has shown impressive performance during testnet testing. In a simple edge function test, Fleek’s average time to first byte (TTFB), a key measure of network responsiveness, was 37.02 milliseconds. This is significantly faster than AWS Lambda (274.22 ms) and Vercel Serverless (103.09 ms).
“Most blockchains that offer traditional web services are not powerful enough for modern developers and users,” Hines said. “Fleek uses decentralization for both security and performance, and our initial test results show this is effective.”
In line with the Web3 principles
Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon Labs, emphasized the alignment with Web3 values: “Accessibility, democracy and freedom of choice are core principles of Web3. Fleek’s vision supports these principles by providing greater freedom in cloud infrastructure tools, making the Polygon network more flexible and diverse.”
Polygon CDK is a modular, open-source toolkit for blockchain developers to launch new L2 chains on Ethereum. Currently used by notable projects such as IDEX, WIREX, Palm Network and Immutable, the need for a reliable cloud infrastructure is paramount. Traditionally, developers have relied on enterprise cloud platforms such as AWS, which can be costly and pose risks such as censorship and security issues.
Fleek’s approach addresses these issues by providing a decentralized, low-cost and self-sovereign alternative. Their global network of web infrastructure operators (nodes) reduces costs by eliminating the human factors that typically account for 75-80% of cloud costs. Additionally, Fleek’s infrastructure saves developers time by providing permissionless, high-performance, auto-scaling services without the need for extensive DevOps and maintenance.
Decentralization for better efficiency
Drawing parallels to successful decentralized physical infrastructure networks such as Uber and Airbnb, Fleek uses blockchain technology to coordinate, align and incentivize network participants. This approach can lead to improved efficiency and superior products for users.
