EVM dApps benefit from the ZK privacy solution

Salus, a holistic Web3 security company, on January 31 unveiled its suite of zero-knowledge (ZK) solutions tailored for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Integrating these products into decentralized applications (dApps) can improve user privacy, the announcement said.

The ZK features are available for any dApp developed on top of blockchains compatible with Solidity, Ethereum’s programming language. This eliminates the need for dApp migration and integrates ZK functionalities, providing a seamless transition for developers looking for improved privacy and security in their applications.

“As more people recognize “DApp+ZK” as the future of Web3, Salus aims to improve innovation efficiency in the Web3 industry around ZK functionality, reduce innovation costs and drive industry development through its technological expertise,” says Mirror Tang , Co-founder and Chief Scientist of Salus.

Tang adds that the ZK proves that privacy features are “numerous and desperately needed for Web3” to take full advantage of the many use cases where critical information must remain private. Therefore, ZK-proofs are poised to address the privacy challenges in the blockchain domain, especially for applications that require confidentiality such as financial services, auctions, and customer verification processes.

The Salus team emphasized through additional comments to Crypto Briefing that the implementation of the zero-knowledge technology offered by the company is not like that used by zk-rollups. Nevertheless, they guarantee that anyone with sufficient knowledge of zk can use their framework to improve the privacy of dApps.

“It is important to clarify that platforms like Starknet and Scroll, which operate as Layer 2 (L2) chains, do not inherently protect user privacy through zero-knowledge proofs. Their main function is to process user transactions more efficiently and at a lower cost by bundling these transactions and submitting them to Layer 1 (Ethereum) for verification, with the aim of reducing gas costs,” explains the security company Web3.

In terms of use cases, Salus emphasizes that zero-knowledge features can be applied in different domains of Web3. In DeFi, ZK on-chain dark pools can help combat front-running transactions, counter liquidity manipulation, and more; in the field of gaming, ZK technology allows game developers to easily create on-chain strategic games tailored to interactive privacy scenarios, opening up new possibilities for gaming scenarios.
