Ethereum NFT Card Battler ‘Parallel’ launches on the Epic Games Store

ParallelAn NFT-driven competitive card game that has been built upon Ethereumlaunched Wednesday at Epic games storepotentially reaching a much larger audience.

The Epic Games Store is a prominent PC gaming marketplace, and had 270 million users as of late 2023, including approximately 75 million monthly active users. Epic Games is the maker of the free-to-play shooter Fortnite and has acquired other games such as Rocket League, but its store hosts games from a wide range of studios.

Parallel, that’s what it was GG‘s pick for the 2023 game of the yearexpanded access earlier this year with the launch of an open beta of the game, following the previous closed beta.

The competitive trading card game is built around NFTs minted on Ethereum and layer-2 scale network Base, although it also includes non-tokenized in-game cards. Players who download the free-to-play game from the Epic Games Store can unlock five additional “Apparition Packs” with the non-NFT cards.

Along with opening up more options to play the game, including a planned mobile version of the game at one point, Parallel Studios – which In March, $35 million was raisedand recently launched Parallel’s Planetfall expansion, are also embracing esports with more than $500,000 in prizes planned for the first year of the Parallel League competition.

But there are even bigger plans, Head of Partnerships Franklin Fitch teased.

“Going live in parallel on Epic opens us up to millions of additional players worldwide,” Fitch said in a release. “But we don’t plan to stop there. As we roll out more ways to access and play Parallel, we also plan to scale our competitive prize pool to millions of dollars next year.”

Beyond Parallel is the company also the development of Colonyan upcoming generative AI-driven simulation game built upon Solana.
