Data shows that Ethereum Layer 2 MegaETH achieved network speeds of up to 47,000 transactions per second during testing as the project prepared for a stress test ahead of the mainnet launch.
In an X-post on Monday, MegaETH said it will launch a “global stress test” on Thursday, with an official launch to follow.
“On January 22, we will open the mainnet to users for several latency-sensitive apps while the chain is under intense, sustained load,” MegaETH said, adding:
“Stress tests only matter when they’re uncomfortable. We’re aiming for sustained, true TPS of 15-35,000, which equates to a total of 11 billion transactions over seven days.”

In the stress test, the MegaETH team will push the chain to its limits on the backend, while users will be able to work with Web3 gaming applications stomp.gg, Smasher and Crossy Fluffle.
“On the back end, the team will push a mix of ETH transfers and v3 AMM swaps via @kumbaya_xyz until we reach 11B. Ultimately, MegaETH will have the largest tx count in history across all EVM chains, while allowing users to play with the chain frictionlessly,” the team said.
MegaETH is an Ethereum layer 2 optimized for speed over decentralization, with the project touting it as “the first real-time blockchain” capable of handling over 100,000 TPS.
Currently, the MegaETH mainnet is only accessible to a limited number of infrastructure builders and applications. During the stress test, a limited part of the mainnet is opened to users. In the X-post, MegaETH said that the official launch will follow shortly after the stress test is completed.

MegaETH reaches 47,000 TPS
According to a Thursday X-post by Ethereum data analytics platform growthepie, MegaETH peaked at nearly 47,000 transactions per second (TPS) on January 16.
“Ok @megaethyou has our attention, we see you are trying things out. More than 45,000 TPS, that’s more transactions in 1 second than some chains have in an entire day. I’m happy to see this capacity being put to good use!”, said growthepie.

MegaETH aims to achieve 15,000 to 35,000 TPS during the stress test, although this figure may vary once it officially launches.
Other speed-oriented chains, such as Solana, have a theoretical maximum of 65,000 TPS; However, according to data from Token Terminal, the real world numbers are closer to around 3,100 TPS.
