Layer 2 network built by ConsenSys Linea is introducing a loyalty NFT campaign to boost activity on its testnet.
According to a blog post, the program rewards users with NFTs for completing certain tasks associated with using the testnet. The plan is intended to help highlight the network and testing activities at scale ahead of the network’s mainnet launch expected in the coming months.
The weekly challenges involve using bridging protocols built on the Linea testnet, including Hop Protocol, Celer Network, Multichain, and Connext. Bridging refers to the transfer of digital assets across different networks.
The campaign follows similar campaigns from Layer 2 networks Arbitrum, Optimism and Polygon who all used the loyalty platform Galxe, which will also be used by Linea.
Layer 2 loyalty campaigns
The campaigns have often led to a large increase in activity on Layer 2 networks, sometimes causing congestion on the network. Arbitrum’s Odyssey campaign even resulted in fees temporarily rising higher than on the Ethereum mainnet, a sub-optimal result for a supposed scaling solution.
The programs are being targeted by airdrop farmers using networks in hopes of meeting the requirements to receive valuable tokens in the future. While the campaigns have not been used directly as criteria for receiving airdrops, using the networks to perform the tasks described may increase the chances of getting them.
Layer 2 networks, including Optimism and most recently Arbitrum, have performed airdrops that have resulted in windfalls for some previous users.
