The number of people owning at least $1 million in crypto assets has increased significantly over the past year, according to a new report from international wealth and investment specialist Henley & Partners.
Data from the company’s 2024 Crypto Wealth Report shows that as of June 30, there are already 172,300 individuals worldwide who own $1 million worth of crypto assets, including Bitcoin (BTC).
The number represents a 95% growth from July 1, 2023.
Crypto millionaires, or those with digital assets worth $100 million, are now number 325, up 79% from last year. The number of people owning at least $1 billion in crypto assets has increased by 27% this year.
The total number of crypto users also increased by 32% to 560 million.
The growth rate of Bitcoin holders is even more impressive. The number of people with $1 million worth of the top crypto asset is now 85,400, up 111%.
The number of Bitcoin centi-millionaires doubled to 156 and the number of BTC billionaires grew by 83% to 11.
Dominic Vole, group head of private clients at Henley & Partners say the introduction of crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) fueled the rapid growth.
“The cryptocurrency landscape of 2024 bears little resemblance to its predecessors. Bitcoin’s rise above $73,000 in March set a new record, while the long-awaited approval of spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in the US unleashed a flood of institutional capital.”
