The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury Department has just added the Bulletproof Hosting (BPH) provider AEZA Group to its specially designated Nationals (SDN) list, a selection of individuals and organizations that pose threats for American national security.
BPH service providers sell access to internet infrastructures with which cyber criminals, including ransomware actors, personal information stealers and illegal drug suppliers, can avoid detection and disruption of their malignant activities.
In a statement, the OFAC says that the US is punishing the web hosting company established in Russia for its role in supporting cyber crime that focuses on victims in the US and all over the world.
The agency says that the AEZA group BPH services provided to ransomware and malware groups such as the Meduza and Lumma -Infontealer -operators who focused on industrial and technology companies in US defense.
The AEZA Group also organized the Bianlian Ransomware, Redline InfoStealer Panels and Blacksprut, a Russian DarkNet marketplace for drugs.
Says acting under secretary of the treasury for terrorism and financial information Bradley T. Smith,
“Cyber criminals continue to trust strong trust in BPH service providers such as AEZA Group to facilitate disturbing ransomware attacks, steal American technology and sell drugs on black market.”
The OFAC sanctions also affiliated companies, including the British Front Aeza International, together with CEO Arsenii Aleksandrovich Penzev, general director Yurii Meruzhanovich Bosoyan, technical director Vladimir Vyacheslavich Guest and co-owner Igor Anatolyevich.
The designation prohibits US transactions with regard to the properties and interests of the sanctioned groups and individuals.
