Full story
Remember all the hype surrounding ‘phygital’ (digital/physical) products?
(It would make sense if you forgot: it’s been a hot minute since anyone mentioned it).
But it’s something we’ve been quietly following for a while.
Since we ran a clothing brand for the better part of six years, and believe us when we tell you, we spent most of our time doing these two things:
-
I’m trying to get people to post pictures of themselves wearing our stuff.
-
Dealing with returns.
What does this have to do with ‘phygital’ technology?
First, encouraging customers and influencers to post our clothes was a long, delayed process that often went something like this…
-
Contact them with an incentive (discounts for customers, free clothes/payments for influencers)…wait…
-
Ship the items and follow up once the tracking shows they have arrived
-
Follow again
-
Get the photos
-
Post them
With phygital technology, a new, fully automated method becomes plausible:
Collect emails → Place them in an automated drip sequence with an incentive → With the click of a button, the customer/influencer can take a photo, have it digitally overlaid on the clothing, and collect payment in crypto.
Than * ping * you’ll get a notification on your phone to schedule new user-generated content.
And as for the return problem, that’s much simpler:
If customers can reliably try on your items, check the size and combine them with their existing wardrobe, you will get customers who are much more confident in their purchase.
And if you’re wondering where our newfound excitement about phygital space comes from, blame the team Myosin.
They just put together a free research report outlining the future promised by phygital technology (which covers things far, far beyond our selfish desires).
