The concept of tokenized gold is moving in the right direction with the official release of XAUT, Tether Gold’s gold-backed digital asset, on the Mantle network. This growth is supported by crypto exchange Bybit, which has declared full deposits and withdrawals of XAUT on Mantle, offering XAUT users a new opportunity to gain physical access to gold through a powerful blockchain architecture.

The integration is a major milestone in the real world of onchain integration assets, meaning it combines the stability of gold with Mantle’s low-cost, high-throughput Layer 2 environment. It is also a step toward strengthening the mantle between traditional finance and decentralized liquidity.
Bybit enables XAUT transfers on Mantle
Bybit confirmed that it would be able to accept XAUT deposits and withdrawals on Mantle from January 20, 2026, with transfers starting at 10:00 UTC. For a special period, users will not receive withdrawal fees when transferring XAUT Mantle, making the network more economical than the Ethereum mainnet.
Through this update, Bybit users can transfer tokenized gold between the Mantle infrastructure without using more expensive Layer 1 transactions. The integration was described in the exchange as part of the broader initiative to expand access to tokenized real-world assets and cross-chain efficiency.
What XAUT represents for Onchain
XAU is an electronic currency (token) issued by Tether Gold, and each unit is guaranteed to be equal to 1 troy ounce of physical gold held in secure vaults. XAUT ownership provides direct exposure to gold without the logistical issues associated with holding or transporting gold.
With the implementation of
Lower costs and faster finality
The reduction in transaction fees is one of the main advantages of XAUM on Mantle. Furthermore, the Layer 2 architecture designed by Mantle, based on the OP Stack, enables significantly lower costs in relation to the Ethereum mainnet with a high level of security guarantees.
Transfers from Ethereum to Mantle are estimated to take approximately three minutes and withdrawals to Ethereum are estimated to take approximately twelve hours. This configuration allows the user to have flexibility in their liquidity and settlement requirements while still enjoying the benefits of the Mantle execution layer efficiency.
DeFi access without sacrificing stability
Launching XAUT on Mantle will allow users to leverage decentralized financial protocols with the exposure of gold, one of the oldest and most secure stores of value in the world. This stability and configurability is a trend in the RWA industry, with more traditional assets being incorporated into DeFi.
Mantle highlighted that this integration can be used to transfer gold-backed assets between on-chain applications in a seamless manner, allowing users to explore yield opportunities and liquidity provisioning and other DeFi applications without exiting defensive asset positions.
Strengthening Mantle’s RWA vision
According to Mantle, the implementation of XAUT was part of the larger program called RWAvultion, to ensure that the real-world financial sector functions effectively on-chain and at scale. Mantle is building itself as a central infrastructure layer that facilitates TradFi assets into decentralized liquidity by backing vault-backed gold with direct exchange integration.
The network pointed to the fact that XAUT on Mantle is a viable demonstration of how RWAs are expected to operate on-chain, with a mix of transparency, efficiency and real economic support.
A broader shift to onchain real-world assets
The introduction of XAUT in Mantle is indicative of a broader industry trend to tokenize offline assets and integrate them with blockchain ecosystems. As users require stability and onchain flexibility, assets like gold are being redesigned using crypto-native infrastructure.
XAUT on Mantle, powered by Bybit, is now operational, and the integration of value and decentralized technology is an interesting idea of what awaits us in the second wave of digital finance.
