Kevin O’Leary Believes Clarity Act Will Advance in Senate Next Year

Shark Tank host and veteran investor Kevin O’Leary expressed his confidence that the Clarity Act will eventually move forward in the Senate and could make a return as early as the first quarter of next year.

During his appearance at the Avalanche Summit in New York, O’Leary shared his thoughts on the recent developments surrounding the bill. He admitted that he did not anticipate the bill to progress on Tuesday, as it fell short of the 60 Senate votes needed to proceed, only receiving 49 votes.

“The chances of Clarity passing, in my view, were zero, and that’s what happened,” O’Leary acknowledged.

The Clarity Act aimed to establish a comprehensive federal framework for regulating crypto markets, which included defining the roles of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Despite the setback, O’Leary remains optimistic about the future of the bill. He highlighted the recent advancement of a separate crypto tax bill in the House as a key indicator that lawmakers will need to address the issue of market structure in the near future.

This week, the House Ways and Means Committee approved the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act, which aims to provide clarity on tax regulations for activities such as staking, mining, small crypto transactions, and broker requirements.
