Russia reportedly sent no less than $ 5 billion through bank giants JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup in a scheme to circumvent American sanctions.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal that ‘people who are familiar with the case’, researchers from the Ministry of Justice (DOJ), believes that Russia has used a bank -controlled bank to relocate billions of dollars by Correspondent American banks and Finally to Turkey too disguised- massive transfers such as financing for a nuclear power plant.

Russia is accused of the use of non-Gesianctioned entities, including Gazprombank, a state finance who allows European countries to import fuel from Russia, in an attempt to set up an offshore dollar fund at the state bank in Turkey in Turkey.

A DOJ study showed that Gazprombank shifted $ 3 billion via Citibank and $ 2 billion via JPMorgan. The large payments caused alarms at the DOJ, as a result of which the authorities blocked and freezes the Chase transaction of $ 2 billion.

The Doj submitted a civil statement last year to grab the frozen $ 2 billion. But the White House reportedly asked the Doj to withdraw the amid concern that the order could oppose Turkey – a country that is important to the American interests in the middle.

The DOJ also says that the JPMorgan or Citi does not investigate misconduct when facilitating the transfers of billion dollars.
