Jack Dorsey’s peer-to-peer decentralized Message Service Bitche saw an important peak in downloads from users in Nepal during this week’s social media.
According to the founder of Cashu and X user @Callebtc, who noticed that the increase in downloads was even greater than an earlier peak from Indonesia who saw 12,000 daily downloads during another series of protests.
The Open-Source DEV, currently working on Bitchrat, praised the convenience of the access service and claimed that it “works everywhere” without telephone number, e-mail, accound registration or even internet.

It does this by enabling users to send each other’s messages in a local area with Bluetooth about “mesh networks”, where the devices only act as “Client and Server. “
As a result, “censorship resistance, security resistance and independence of infrastructure claims.”
Bitchte bypasses the ban on social media of Nepal
Anti-corruption protests in Nepal took place this week after the government had banned 26 social media platforms.
The protesters claimed that it was an attempt to stop the “Nepo-KID” anti-corruption campaign that focused on a series of social media videos that apparently showed the lush lifestyles of the children of the political elite of Nepal.
The protests escalated after the Nepalese police had killed 22 demonstrators and were hundreds more injured. During the unrest, The Parliament of Nepal has burned down, together with the house of the former Prime Minister of Nepal.

The current prime minister has since resigned and Nepal’s army is now patroling through the streets while a curfew is in place. The ban on social media was also lifted on Monday evening.
As far as Indonesia is concerned, the protests started at the end of August on the approach to the government of economic hardships. However, this protest was not confronted with a ban on social media.
