McDonald’s Singapore has announced the release of 2,000 NFTs in the coming week. The digital collectibles are a collaboration between McDonald’s with metaverse service provider Bandwagon Labs and NFT artist The Hidden Walls.
The Grimace Digital Collectibles allow users to hold a virtual representation of Grimace, a friend of Ronald McDonald who was first introduced over 50 years ago. According to the statement, the collection must be made available for free, with possession of a Digital Collectibles wallet being the only requirement. The wallet is available through the MetaMask app and Web3Auth. Each wallet can store one NFT, which cannot be sold or transferred.
McDonald’s claims that each of the 2,000 digital tokens will be a unique representation of Grimace’s properties and essence. McDonald’s senior executive Drina Chee commented:
Grimace holds a special place in the hearts of many of our superfans, and this initiative allows us to evolve the character from nostalgic memories to love for all generations.
The fast food giant has been active in showing its presence in the digital space. Most recently, in June, McDonald launched McNuggets Land on the metaverse platform The Sandbox, as part of Chicken McNuggets’ 40th anniversary celebrations. In 2022, the company also expressed an interest in expanding its services into the “virtual food and beverage industry,” opening stores in the Metaverse.
McDonald’s Grimace Digital Collectibles adds to the string of corporate NFT launches the community has seen in recent weeks. Recently, Coca-Cola released its first NFT collection, following Reddit’s launch of the fourth generation of NFT collectibles.
