The global financial sector is getting an upgrade, with a new tokenized index that combines digital assets with crypto-focused stocks.
S&P Global does launch the S&P Digital Markets 50 Index, which will track 15 top cryptocurrencies and 35 blockchain-linked listed companies in one benchmark.
The index will be investable via a token called dShares, developed in collaboration with crypto asset firm Dinari.
The index will select crypto assets from S&P’s existing Cryptocurrency Broad Digital Market Index, each with a market capitalization of at least $300 million, and stocks linked to digital assets, which require a limit of at least $100 million.
Cameron Drinkwater, Chief Product Officer of S&P Dow Jones Indices, says the company hopes the product will “move crypto from the margins to the mainstream.”
The hybrid tool will include companies like Bitcoin treasury giant MicroStrategy (MSTR), Coinbase (COIN), and Riot Platforms (RIOT).
No component will have a weighting of more than 5%, in an effort to ensure diversification.
