Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin argues for the optimization of Layer1 Security and Decentralization functions to streamline how builders develop Layer2S.
In a recent X -post, Buterin gives up about a take about how alternative layer1s ultimately become Layer2s overtime. The co-founder of Ethereum (ETH) is of the opinion that builders should learn in chains “to lean in the range of the L1” to maximize L2 for what it is.
According to Buterin, developers must stop trying to build everything up completely. Instead, L2 builders must use the strengths of the L1 of Ethereum. These functions include security, censorship resistance, evidence and availability of data.
By discharging these responsibilities for the Layer1 technology of Ethereum, future L2S Light and Robust can remain in contrast to too much complicated.
“Reduce your logic to just a sequencer and a Provert (if based, only a Prover) about the core version,” said Buterin in his post.

He believes that L2S should minimize their complexity and concentrate more on ordering transactions by sequencing and generating cryptographic evidence, such as ZK-proofs or fraud tickets, to show that the implementation of the transaction is valid.
“This is the combination of confidence minimization and efficiency that the blockchain crew of the Enterprise 2010 wanted, but could never reach,” said Buterin, adding that Ethereum L2S can now make it a reality.
Vitalik Buterin in decentralization
Apart from simplicity and decentralization, Vitalik Buterin also emphasized the real advantage of using Ethereum L1 for building L2S.
“We have already seen successful examples of the functions of the L1 that protect the rights of users if something goes wrong on the L2,” continued Buterin.
Earlier this month at the annual Ethereum Community Conference, Vitalik Buterin called the fake decentralization in many crypto projects. He noted that many startups build decentralized applications with centralized front-end, which he mentioned as ‘straw houses’.
Moreover, Buterin pointed to a number of tests to see if an app has really been built to be safe and decentralized. One of them was the ‘Walkaway test’, which showed whether an app would still function if the core team resolved.
